| Minor repairs to the interior of a
concrete swimming pool or the deck area may be easily performed by the pool owner.
However, major repairs such as large broken pieces of concrete or long wide cracks should
be repaired by an experienced pool service firm to achieve best results.
Hairline cracks
Concrete pools with hairline cracks present no serious problem for repair. Usually, one
heavy coat of epoxy paint will fill and seal a hairline crack permanently.

Small
cracks
Small cracks in concrete (up to 1/8") should first be
cleaned out with a wire brush or by blowing out with compressed air. Then, the crack
should be filled in with #950 PERMASEAL. PERMASEAL is a nitrile rubber caulking compound
which comes in tubes and is applied with a regular caulking gun. When applying the
PERMASEAL, build up a "bead" about 1/4" above the pool surface. This will
allow for normal shrinkage as the solvent evaporates. PERMASEAL will remain permanently
flexible so it will expand and contract with the concrete as temperatures vary. It is
white in color and cures overnight. |

POX-O-FILL
Major repairs should be performed by a reputable pool
service company, but anyone with experience in concrete repair should be able to fix
holes, pits and large cracks with satisfactory results. For permanent patching of
concrete, we recommend #962 POX-O-FILL epoxy putty for a strong, lasting bond. This
material is a two component epoxy patching compound that holds tight underwater and will
cure stronger than the concrete itself. POX-O-FILL may be applied with a putty knife or
trowelled over rough areas with excellent results. |

#960
Concrete Patch
Our #960 CONCRETE PATCH is a strong yet economical concrete
patching compound. This product may be used for both above ground and underwater concrete
surfaces. #960 CONCRETE PATCH is an easy to use, two-component waterproof material. One
container is a dry powder cement formula and the other container is a special silicone
latex mixing liquid. After mixing the two components together, the material may be
trowelled into cracks to form a hard, permanent patch. CONCRETE PATCH will cure overnight
and may be painted the next day. |

Thermolastic (for Expansion Joints)
THERMOLASTIC Joint Filler is a permanently flexible,
poly-sulfide rubber base material for filling vertical and horizontal joints in concrete.
THERMOLASTIC is a two-component system consisting of a catalyst and base material. When
the two are mixed together, they slowly thicken into a solid rubber substance.
THERMOLASTIC is extremely flexible and will not fail due to expansion and contraction of
concrete. We do recommend the services of an experienced pool service firm for the
installation of THERMOLASTIC. Request Bulletin #131 for detailed information on working
with THERMOLASTIC. |
